The Dallas Cowboys have signed 34-year-old tight end Jason Witten to a four-year contract extension, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Witten was set to become a free agent after the 2017 season. The extension will run through the 2021 season.

He hauled in 69 passes for 673 yards and three touchdowns, adding six receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown in the team's lone playoff game.

Witten has spent his entire career with the Cowboys since joining the team as a third-round pick in 2003. He is the franchise leader in receptions, with 1,089, and trails Michael Irvin by just 16 yards for the all-time receiving yards record (11,904 yards).

The 2017 season will mark Witten's 15th in the NFL.
