Canadiens to visit Winnipeg for home opener Oct. 9

Winnipeg's return to NHL hockey will be a home game against the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday, October 9 at 4pm ct.

The True North ownership group confirmed the details of the game to TSN on Wednesday.

The game will kick off the regular season for Winnipeg as the franchise moves to Canada from Atlanta.

Winnipeg will open exhibition play on Sept. 20 with a pair of split-quad games against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

One game will take place at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg while the other will be in Columbus.

The Winnipeg team will then visit the Nashville Predators on Sept. 24 and the Carolina Hurricanes on Sept. 25 before playing the Ottawa Senators in Conception Bay South, N.L, as part of the Kraft Hockeyville celebrations on Sept. 26.

It will wrap up pre-season play with home games against Carolina on Sept. 28 and Nashville on Sept. 30.

The complete NHL schedule will be released on Thursday at 2pm et/1pm ct.
