LONDON -- Dan Carter led a New Zealand clean sweep of the 2012 IRB awards after the flyhalf was named player of the year for the second time.

Carter, test rugby's leading points-scorer, withstood the challenge of All Blacks teammate Richie McCaw -- a three-time winner of the award -- England flyhalf Owen Farrell and France No. 10 Frederic Michalak on Monday to capture the accolade he also won in 2005.

The All Blacks were named team of the year after winning 12 of 14 tests, with their only loss coming against England on Saturday in their final international of 2012.

New Zealand's Steve Hansen was named coach of the year in his first full season as head of the world's top-ranked side.
