GLASGOW -- Scotland included 10 uncapped players in its provisional 35-man squad for the Six Nations as the team looks to improve on its dismal showing in last year's tournament.

One of the new players called up by interim coach Scott Johnson, who is filling in following the resignation of Andy Robinson last month, is New Zealand-born Sean Maitland, a former Canterbury Crusaders winger who qualifies by virtue of having Scottish grandparents.

Maitland is one of 19 squad members who play for Glasgow Warriors, currently second in the 12-team Celtic League.

"We've chosen this squad with two parameters uppermost in our minds: current form and looking to the future," Johnson said.

Scotland lost all five of its matches in last year's Six Nations and was humbled by Tonga in a chastening campaign of November tests in 2012, resulting in Robinson's resignation.
