Only hours after being activated off the disabled list, Toronto Blue Jays starter Aaron Sanchez left his start against the Tampa Bay Rays after only one inning pitched and 13 pitches thrown with a split nail on his right middle finger.

After the Jays went on to beat the Rays 3-1, Sanchez said he wasn't sure if he'd be able to make his next start. After allowing a leadoff walk, Sanchez noticed his finger was already bleeding which forced him to come out of the game.

Sanchez, 24, was placed on the disabled list on April 15 with a blister on his pitching hand. Sanchez had a procedure on April 17 to remove a portion of that same nail in order to help alleviate the blister issue.

Ryan Tepera took over for Sanchez in the second inning of a scoreless game.

The team announced later in the afternoon that Sanchez incurred a split nail in his right middle finger.

Prior to the DL, Sanchez started twice for the team, going 0-2 with a 4.38 earned run average and a WHIP of 1.216.

To make room for Sanchez, the Jays option reliever Matt Dermody back to the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons of the International League.

Twenty-game winner J.A. Happ, still on the DL with elbow inflammation.
