Toronto Blue Jays ace Aaron Sanchez is inching closer to a return to the mound after throwing 60 pitches in Florida, according to manager John Gibbons.

The 24-year-old Sanchez could be an option to start Sunday afternoon against the Seattle Mariners, but nothing has been confirmed at this point.

Sanchez was activated from the disabled list on April 30 to start against the Tampa Bay Rays, but was only able to last one inning before being removed with the nail injury that has sent him back to the sidelines.

He originally went on the DL on April 16th with a blister problem and underwent a minor surgical procedure to have part of his fingernail removed.

Sanchez is 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA in 2017. He led the American League with a 3.00 ERA last season.

In other injury news, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who hasn't played since April 21 with a hamstring injury, participated in fielding drills for a second straight day Tuesday and could be headed south for a rehab assignment soon, according to TSN Blue Jays Reporter Scott Mitchell.

The 32-year-old is hitting .263 with one home run and 10 RBIs over 16 games this season, his second full campaign with the club.
