CALGARY - The Dallas Stars need every point they can get. They gladly took two on Wednesday night.

Tyler Seguin had the only goal in the shootout and Ales Hemsky scored twice in regulation as the streaking Stars edged the Calgary Flames 4-3 for their seventh win in eight games.

The win brings Dallas within six points of the Winnipeg Jets for the second wild-card spot in the Western Conference with just eight games left in the regular season.

"This was a game that we needed two points, we had to get two points somehow," said Stars coach Lindy Ruff. "It's a situation where we might have to run the table and in all reality that might not get you in."

Kari Lehtonen, who had 31 saves in regulation, denied Joe Colborne, Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan in the shootout to clinch the win.

"It's been exciting the last couple weeks. We've been playing well and getting results and climbing a little bit but we still have a little bit to go," said Lehtonen, who improved to 33-14-10.

Jamie Benn also scored for Dallas (36-28-10), which plays in Edmonton on Friday.

Deryk Engelland, with his first two goals of the season, and Johnny Gaudreau scored for Calgary (40-27-7).

The Flames are third in the Pacific Division, one point up on idle Los Angeles, who sit outside of a playoff spot. The Kings have a game in hand.

"Early on, it seemed we had no energy. We were coming from a day off and for one of the rare times, we got outskated," said Flames coach Bob Hartley. "We battled back, and looking at the situation it's a huge point, but at this time we're shooting for two."

Down 3-2 headed to the third period, Calgary got the only goal as Engelland scored his second of the night on a floater from the blue-line that found the top corner.

Engelland's first career two-goal game came after he had gone without a goal in his last 77 games dating back to last season.

"No matter if you score one or two or none, two points is what we need and coming down the stretch, we'll take one but we needed that other one, too," said Engelland, who signed with the Flames as a free agent last summer after spending his entire career with Pittsburgh.

The 32-year-old has seen his ice time go up considerably since captain Mark Giordano suffered a season-ending injury a month ago.

"He always give us great games. He's a worker but the fact he gets his first two goals in a Flames uniform is great. I'm so glad that a player like him gets rewarded," said Hartley. "He takes care of all of the players on the team. He's a great leader for us, gets us two big goals. It was a good night for him. It's too bad we didn't get the two points on top of it."

The Flames open up a five-game road trip in Minnesota on Friday.

After scoreless first period, the teams combined on five goals in the second. Dallas took a 2-0 lead, saw Calgary come back to tie it, then took the lead again on Hemsky's second goal with 16 seconds left in the period.

Ramo had 27 saves to fall to 15-8-3.
