TORONTO -- The father of Toronto FC manager Paul Mariner has died in England.

Mariner's father had been ill and the former England international got word late last week that he had taken a turn for the worse. Mariner, 59, flew to England after his team's 1-0 loss to D.C. United on Saturday.

His father died early Tuesday, the MLS club confirmed.
