ORLANDO, Fla. -- Toronto FC made its first cuts of the pre-season Sunday, releasing two players taken in the MLS supplemental draft and a trialist.

Midfielders Jose Gomez and Nik Robson were let go, along with Trinidad and Tobago defender-midfielder Joevin Jones.

Goalkeeper Stefan Frei, meanwhile, was at practice Sunday after leaving Saturday's game against the Columbus Crew in the first half following a collision with Crew striker Ryan Finley.

Frei, cleat marks visible on the side of his nose, did not take part in the training session but just kicked a ball around.

A medical update was expected later.

Frei was hurt in his first outing since last March, when he injured his leg and ankle in training.

Mexican-born Gomez was a second-round (38th overall) supplemental draft pick from Creighton while New Zealand-born Robson, from the University of New Mexico, was taken in the third round (39th overall).

Jones was one of two trialists in camp.

None of the three were among the 23 TFC players used in the 1-0 loss to Columbus at the Walt Disney World Pro Soccer Classic.
