Source: Bezbatchenko will be named next GM of Toronto FC

Toronto FC has called a press conference for Friday at 10am et/7am pt, where they are expected to name Tim Bezbatchenko as the team's new general manager.

Sources have told TSN that Bezbatchenko, who currently works as the Senior Director of Player Relations and Competition at MLS head office, will take over the GM duties that were vacated by the firing of Kevin Payne.

When Tim Leiweke, CEO of Maple Leaf Sports & Entertainment fired Payne, he also gave an unqualified vote of confidence to head coach Ryan Nelsen, saying the new GM would have to work with him in 2014.

Toronto FC is currently second last in the MLS Eastern Division with a 4-14-11 record and will miss the playoffs once again this season.

The first Canadian MLS franchise has never made the post-season in its seven year existence.
