The Vancouver Whitecaps acquired an international roster spot from Eastern Conference side Chicago Fire in exchange for midfielder Matt Watson.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Whitecaps FC have 12 international roster spots through the 2014 season and 10 international roster spots through 2016.

"Matty is a hard working player with great character and a tremendous attitude," Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson said. "This move was made in the best interest of both Matty's career and the club. We thank Matty for his dedication to the club over the past two seasons and we wish him the best of luck with Chicago Fire."

Watson joined Whitecaps FC in December, 2011. In two seasons with the club, the native of Redditch, England, started 28 of his 39 appearances, recording two assists.
