MADRID, Spain (AP) - David Beckham wants to stay with Real Madrid.

Beckham, who has been reduced to a substitute under coach Fabio Capello, said Monday he has resumed contract negotiations with the team. His current deal finishes at the end of this season.

"I am happy here. My family are happy here," Beckham said. "At the moment I play for Real Madrid. Let's hope it carries on."

If Beckham has not signed a new contract by January, other teams can start bidding for him.

"If it gets to January, nothing changes. I am not leaving," Beckham said. "I am not going anywhere in January. I want to stay because I believe we can win something this season."

Beckham, 31, also said would be patient as he tries to get back into the starting lineup.
