VIENNA, Austria - Germany coach Joachim Loew has been banned from the sideline for Thursday's European Championship quarter-final match against Portugal following his spat with an official.
Loew was given a one-game suspension by UEFA on Wednesday, two days after they were banished to the stands by the referee. He and Austria coach Josef Hickersberger appeared to bicker with the fourth official during Germany's 1-0 group win, the German football federation said.
Loew's assistant, Hansi Flick, will likely take charge of the team from the bench in Basel, as he did for the remainder of Monday's match.
