VANCOUVER -- The Vancouver Whitecaps will wear white uniforms with blue trim when they join Major League Soccer next season.

The team unveiled the new uniforms Thursday.

Produced by Adidas, the official MLS uniform supplier, the new uniforms have three stripes running from the collar and down both arms in blue. Thin horizontal stripes of blue, representing the ocean, run across the front of the jersey from above the chest and grow in thickness.

The jersey will feature the club's new logo on the left chest, an MLS logo on the right arm and a Canadian flag on the left arm. The front of the jerseys will also have the logo of Bell, which has been selected as the team's premier sponsor.

On the back collar, the text "Since 1974" pays homage to the year the Whitecaps played their first season in the old North American Soccer League.

"Soccer fans around the world take great pride in displaying their passion and loyalty for their favourite team by wearing their team's jersey on a regular basis," Whitecaps president Bob Lenarduzzi said in a release.

"We believe both our many long-serving fans and new supporters of the club will proudly wear these new jerseys throughout Vancouver or wherever they may be around the globe."

Earlier this week the Whitecaps unveiled their new logo. It has the words Vancouver Whitecaps FC written in white on a blue background. A stylized W represents the snow-capped mountain peaks of the North Shore and the white-capped waves of the ocean.

Season tickets for Vancouver's inaugural MLS season will go on sale Saturday.

About 10,000 deposits have already been received. The team plans to cap tickets at 16,500. Prices start at $319.

Canada will have three MLS franchises when Montreal joins the league in 2012. Toronto FC entered the league in 2007.
