FRANKFURT, Germany -- Hugo Almeida hit a hat trick before being sent off as Werder Bremen beat St. Pauli 3-0 in the Bundesliga on Sunday to end a three-game run without scoring a goal.

In the late match, Cicero scored a spectacular equalizer for Wolfsburg in a 1-1 draw at Cologne.

Cologne went ahead through Milivoje Novakovic in the 51st, with the striker heading in a ball punched out by Wolfsburg goalkeeper Diego Benaglio. Cicero salvaged the draw with an overhead kick in the 81st. Both teams remain in the bottom half of the standings.

In Bremen, Almeida opened the scoring 50 seconds into the match and doubled the lead in the 20th minute, both times after passes from Marko Marin that allowed him to beat the offside.

The Portugal striker added his third in the 64th, but was sent off in the 80th for retaliating against Carlos Zambrano.

St. Pauli also finished the match with 10 men, with Markus Thorandt receiving a red card for a rough foul on Torsten Frings in the 89th.

"I was getting fouled a lot during the entire game. I was hit from behind and I just lost my nerve," Almeida said.

With a long injury list, Werder coach Thomas Schaaf was not pleased at the prospect of losing another player through suspension.

"He should not let himself get provoked," Schaaf said.

It was the first win for Bremen in five games and after having conceded 10 goals in its last three games without scoring once.

St. Pauli is now winless in six games. Gerald Asamoah and Fin Bartels hit Werder's crossbar.

Borussia Dortmund beat Moenchengladbach 4-1 on Saturday to remain seven points ahead of Mainz.

With 37 points from 14 games, Dortmund has set a Bundesliga record -- no team has had so many points after 14 rounds before.
