COMMERCE CITY, Colo. -- Bruce Arena knows a missed opportunity when he sees one. And the Los Angeles coach saw a chance slip by when the Galaxy settled for a tie against Colorado.

Marcelo Sarvas scored in the 10th minute and the Galaxy played to 1-1 draw with the Rapids on Sunday, extending their unbeaten streak to seven games.

"We got a point on the road," Arena said in his assessment of what was accomplished.

Sarvas scored his second goal of the season to help the Galaxy (15-11-5) improve to 5-0-2 in their unbeaten stretch while outscoring opponents 16-4. Los Angeles moved two points behind Real Salt Lake for second place in the Western Conference with three games left.

"It was a tough game," LA forward Robbie Keane said. "It was a disappointing game and we gave up tying goal not long after."

Jaime Castrillon had his eighth goal of the year in the 16th minute for Colorado (9-18-4). The Rapids have won only once in their last 15 games, and trail Vancouver by eight points for the final playoff spot in the West.

Colorado coach Oscar Pareja didn't comment on his team's fading chances. He preferred to focus on the fact the Rapids had the better of their guests in the second half.

"We played better than LA," Pareja said.

The Galaxy lost defender A.J. DeLaGarza to a left ankle injury in the 30th minute.

Los Angeles pressured Rapids goalkeeper Matt Pickens early and broke through first on Sarvas' score. Robbie Keane had his shot blocked by defenders, but the ball came right back to Sarvas who sent a low drive past Pickens' right hand.

Nifty passing by Landon Donovan and Sarvas set up a wide-open net for Keane in the 13th minute, but Keane fell and never got to the ball.

"I had a pretty good chance," Keane said. "I tried to get some kind of a shot off."

Colorado tied it when Castrillon took a pass from Hunter Freeman and beat Galaxy goalkeeper Josh Saunders from 20 yards out.

Donovan had a goal disallowed in the 29th minute after he leaped over Freeman and put the ball past Pickens.

Pickens made saves on Mike Magee and Donovan in the final two minutes of the half.

Neither team threatened in the second half until Drew Moor's header for the Rapids in the 80th minute. Moor took a corner kick from Martin Rivero in the centre of the scoring area, but his header sailed over the crossbar.

"The game was there to be won and we didn't win it," Colorado midfielder Jeff Larentowicz said. "Now we are faced with the prospects that we have to win every game."
