BERLIN -- Bayern Munich maintained its record-setting pace in the Bundesliga by overcoming Eintracht Frankfurt 2-0 at home on Saturday for a 10th win in 11 games.
Franck Ribery struck just before the interval, when Javi Martinez sprung the offside trap to set the Frenchman up, while David Alaba took his chance to secure the win in the 77th minute after Vadim Demidov was adjudged to have brought down Bastian Schweinsteiger. Television replays showed the Bayern midfielder went down under minimal contact.
"The penalty, which wasn't a penalty, was decisive," said Frankfurt coach Armin Veh. "Unfortunately we weren't rewarded for the effort we showed. But we also played against an opponent which is playing in another league."
Bayern has scored 32 goals and conceded only four, a new differential record after 11 rounds, while Jupp Heynckes' side has 30 points, also a record at this stage in the Bundesliga.
Second-placed Schalke came from behind to beat Werder Bremen 2-1 and stay seven points behind.
"The character of the team is simply super," Schalke coach Huub Stevens said after his side's second comeback in as many games. Schalke salvaged a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday.
Defending champion Borussia Dortmund grafted for a 3-1 win at Augsburg, but remains 11 points behind Bayern.
"It was a hard piece of work," said Dortmund coach Juergen Klopp.
Fortuna Duesseldorf drew 1-1 at home with Hoffenheim, while 10-man Hamburger SV battled to a 0-0 draw at Freiburg.
Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp made a host of saves to keep his side in contention in Munich, where Brazilian defender Anderson struck the post for the promoted side.
Trapp's outstretched leg denied Ribery when it seemed the winger was sure to score in the 26th, shortly before Bayern defender Jerome Boateng went off with what looked like a groin injury.
Trapp prevented Bayern from making it 2-0 before the break, with saves against Toni Kroos and then Ribery.
Anderson came closest as the visitors threatened an equalizer after the break, with Trapp making another crucial block to deny Kroos at the other end.
Alaba's confident spot kick finally put the result beyond doubt.
"You can't always score six goals," Heynckes said, referring to the midweek win over Lille. "It's always hard to switch from the Champions League to the Bundesliga but Eintracht also played very well."
In Gelsenkirchen, Bremen captain Aaron Hunt fired the visitors ahead against the run of play in the 16th, with a shot across goal in off the far post.
Bremen twice hit the crossbar, before Roman Neustaedter celebrated his first Germany callup a day earlier by equalizing with a header on the hour.
United States midfielder Jermaine Jones set up Julian Draxler to score Schalke's second on a counterattack nine minutes later, and Bremen might have scored a last-gasp equalizer only to be denied by Lewis Holtby's headed clearance off the line.
"A good game in the Champions League doesn't earn you any points in the Bundesliga," Klopp said before his side's game in Augsburg, where the final score flattered the visitors.
Marco Reus curled a delightful free kick from a narrow angle on the right inside the far post in the ninth, but Augsburg was the better side in the first half, when Dortmund appeared sluggish after its 2-2 draw at Real Madrid on Tuesday.
Simon Jentzsch prevented Mario Goetze's effort going in off the post before the break, but Robert Lewandowski did enough under pressure to play the ball though the Augsburg 'keeper's legs to score.
Reus set up Lewandowski with an easy finish for the Poland striker's second in the 70th, before Sascha Moelders headed Augsburg's consolation with eight to go.
"Of course it was a difficult game. We had a lot of problems in the first half. It was a little easier after the second goal," Lewandowski said.
Duesseldorf midfielder Robbie Kruse took advantage of Hoffenheim goalkeeper Tim Wiese's slip to head the ball into the empty net in the fourth minute, but Joselu equalized with a deflected header in the 39th.
Hamburg defender Paul Scharner was sent off in the 35th for a second yellow after repeated offences in Freiburg, where neither side could find the breakthrough in a bad-tempered game.
