TORONTO -- Once again, Colin Miller has answered Canada's call.

The Canadian Soccer Association announced Monday that the former Canadian international -- and current FC Edmonton manager -- has been named interim coach of the Canadian men's soccer team.

Miller, 48, will lead Canada while the CSA continues its search for a permanent replacement for Stephen Hart, who resigned in October after an 8-1 loss to Honduras knocked the Canadian men out of World Cup qualifying.

Miller will take charge of Canada for friendlies against Denmark on Jan. 26 in Tucson and the U.S. on Jan., 29 in Houston. The Canadian training camp opens Jan. 19 in Arizona.

"It has always been a privilege to represent Canada, as a player, team captain and coach, and I look forward to taking on the role of interim head coach for a second time," Miller said in a statement. "I am honoured to have been selected by the Canadian Soccer Association, and thank FC Edmonton's organization, particularly owner Tom Fath, for its support in this process."

Miller won 61 caps as a player for Canada. He has served as Canada's assistant coach and was interim head coach in 2003.

Miller helped bridge the national team coaching gap between Holger Osieck and Frank Yallop. He paved the way for Yallop in his three games as interim manager, bringing back the likes of Marc Bircham, Ante Jazic and Paul Peschisolido who had become disenchanted under Osieck.

Inducted into Canada's Soccer Hall of Fame in 2005, Miller made his debut for Canada at just 18 and was part of the squad that qualified for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico.

Born in Scotland, Miller grew up in Vancouver. He signed with the Toronto Blizzard in 1982 before returning to Scotland to play for Glasgow Rangers, Doncaster Rovers, Hamilton Academicals, St. Johnstone, Hearts, Dunfermline Athletic and Ayr United. He also played for the Hamilton Steelers in Canada.

Miller was named coach of FC Edmonton on Nov 27, succeeding Harry Sinkgraven after the team finished last in the North American Soccer League.

He also served as first team coach at Derby County in England and, most recently, as assistant coach for the Vancouver Whitecaps.

FC Edmonton is slated to open training camp in mid-February.
