LIVERPOOL, England -- Everton captain Phil Neville will leave the Premier League club at the end of the season and may look to sign for another club in England's top division before retiring.

The 36-year-old Neville, who joined Everton in 2005, said Tuesday that "I want to continue to play at the top level as long as I physically can, and will be weighing up my options before making a decision on my next move."

Neville appears destined for a future in coaching, and will be part of England under-21s' backroom staff for this summer's European Championship.

After starting his career at Manchester United, Neville became only the seventh player to make 500 Premier League appearances when he played for Everton against Wigan on Dec. 26.
