GENOA, Italy -- Monaco has signed goalkeeper Sergio Romero on a season-long loan from Sampdoria.
The Italian club confirmed the deal, adding that Monaco also has the option to buy the 26-year-old Argentine international.
Romero joined Sampdoria in 2011 from Dutch club AZ Alkmaar and helped it win promotion to Serie A. He was also a key player in helping the Italian club avoid relegation last season.
Newly promoted Monaco is one of the favourites for the French league title after spending heavily during the off-season.
