Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe was named MLS Player of the Week on Monday.

The England international had both goals in TFC's season-opening 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders on Saturday.

The 31-year-old continues a remarkable run that has seen him score in his debut with every club he's played for in West Ham, Bournemouth, Tottenham, Portsmouth and the English national side.

Defoe was also named in the MLS Team of the Week, alongside fellow Toronto designated player, midfielder Michael Bradley. TFC's Jonathan Osorio was named to the team's bench and Ryan Nelsen was named its coach.

Vancouver Whitecaps winger Kekuta Manneh, who scored the lone Vancouver goal in the team's 1-1 draw with Chivas USA, was also named to the bench.
