LONDON -- The English Football Association has fined Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho 8,000 pounds ($13,400) after he was found guilty of improper conduct for going onto the pitch and approaching the referee during a Premier League game.

The incident occurred in the final stages of Chelsea's 1-0 loss at Aston Villa on March 15.

Mourinho was upset after his midfielder Ramires was sent off, with the Brazilian becoming the second Chelsea player to receive a red card in the match after Willian. Mourinho was ordered from the touchline by referee Chris Foy.

The Portuguese coach denied the FA charge but the governing body says Thursday that it was found proven at a hearing on Wednesday.

Mourinho has also been warned as to his future conduct.
