MONTREAL - The Montreal Impact have promoted midfielder Jeremy Gagnon-Lapare from their academy to the Major League Soccer club.

The team announced Thursday that the 19-year-old midfielder signed as a "home grown" player.

The Sherbrooke, Que., native played five games in the developmental league and twice started reserve league games this season. He also played a game for the Impact on May 7 in Edmonton in a semi-final of the Amway Canadian Championship.

Gagnon-Lapare has four appearances with Canada's national team, including friendly matches against Bulgaria and Moldova in Austria in May.

He is the sixth academy player to sign with the MLS club after defenders Karl Ouimette, Maxim Tissot and Wandrille Lefevre, goalkeeper Maxime Crepeau, and midfielder Zakaria Messoudi.
