Toronto FC striker Jermain Defoe was one of the reserves named by Portland Timbers coach Caleb Porter as he rounded out his 23-man MLS All-Star team on Saturday.
Defoe joins teammate Michael Bradley on the squad. The American international was among those voted into the starting XI by the fans last week.
The MLS All-Stars face Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich on August 6 in Portland.
Also named as a reserve to play in front of a home crowd was Timbers midfielder and Canadian international Will Johnson.
The Seattle Sounders lead the way with five representatives on the 23-man squad with Chad Marshall and Osvaldo Alonso joining already named teammates DeAndre Yedlin, Clint Dempsey and Obafemi Martins.
Former Barclays Premier League stars will be well represented with New York Red Bulls pair Bradley Wright-Phillips and Tim Cahill named to the squad, along with Los Angeles Galaxy forward and Irish international Robbie Keane. All told, nine of the 23 men named to the team have played in the BPL (Bradley, Cahill, Landon Donovan, Defoe, Dempsey, Thierry Henry, Keane, Martins and Wright-Phillips.)
Neither the Vancouver Whitecaps, nor the Montreal Impact is represented.
You can catch all of the MLS All-Star Game action live on TSN on August 9 at 9pm et/6pm pt.
