Jermain Defoe is expected to miss Toronto FC's next two matches.

Head coach Ryan Nelsen ruled Defoe out of Toronto FC's match at home to New England on Saturday, saying Defoe is enduring groin issues and will see a specialist.

Nelsen added that Defoe will also miss the team's match in Philadelphia on Wednesday.

Defoe started the club's 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire on Aug. 23 after missing the club's previous three games with a groin injury sustained on July 30.

The English striker has scored 11 goals in 16 games played with the Reds this season for a comfortable team lead and a share of fith overall in the League.

Toronto FC remains in third in the Eastern Conference with 33 points through 23 games.
