DALLAS — The Mavericks are sending 2012 NBA slam dunk champion Jeremy Evans and cash to Indiana as Dallas prepares to wrap up several moves in free agency.

Two people with knowledge of the deal said Wednesday that the trade was made to clear salary cap space for the Mavericks. One of the people said Dallas is making room to add centre Andrew Bogut after agreeing to a trade with Golden State. The people spoke on condition of anonymity because trades can't be official until league business resumes at 12:01 a.m. Eastern time Thursday. The Evans trade was first reported by Yahoo Sports.

Dallas has also reached agreements with point guard Deron Williams and Golden State's Harrison Barnes. The small forward, who agreed to a maximum contract at four years and $94 million, will become an unrestricted free agent when the Warriors renounce their rights to him to clear cap room for the addition of Kevin Durant.

Bogut is set to make $11 million in the final year of his deal. The Warriors had to trade him for salary cap reasons after persuading Durant to leave Oklahoma City and agreeing with the four-time scoring champion on a two-year, $54 million contract.

Williams agreed to a one-year, $10 million deal, twice what he made in his first season with the hometown Mavericks after taking a buyout in Brooklyn. Star forward Dirk Nowitzki is returning for a 19th season on a two-year, $40 million contract. He will have a player option for a 20th season in Dallas.

Evans, a small forward, played sparingly in his only season with the Mavericks, averaging 2.4 points and 1.8 rebounds in 30 games. He spent his first five seasons in Utah.

The 28-year-old Evans joins a frontcourt that got another addition in Thaddeus Young in a draft-night traded with Brooklyn. The Pacers also agreed to a three-year, $30 million deal with centre-forward Al Jefferson on the opening day of free agency.
