TORONTO - Garret Sparks made 31 saves and Matt Frattin scored for the first time in 12 games as the Toronto Marlies toppled the visiting Rochester Americans 5-1 on Saturday in American Hockey League play.

T.J. Brennan, Richard Panik and Rinat Valiev each had a goal and an assist for the Marlies (13-3-1), who are 8-0-1 in their last nine contests, while William Nylander added the other to extend his point streak to nine games.

Phil Varone kept the Americans (7-9-1) from being shut out for the second straight meeting against Toronto, which beat Rochester 1-0 on Wednesday.

Andrey Makarov stopped 31-of-35 shots in a losing cause.

The Marlies went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Americans failed to score on four chances with the man advantage.
