Spylce is “taking a step back” from Overwatch, CEO and co-founder Marty Strenczewilk announced Tuesday.

The first step will be to release its entire roster, joining the likes of compLexity Gaming, Denial Esports and Red Reserve as professional organizations to do so.

With the incoming Overwatch League, there is plenty of speculation that the expected cost of a position in the league is too much for many organizations. Many reports suggest a spot in the Overwatch League could cost up to $20 million.

Strenczewilk cited a lack of worthwhile competitions as the reason for moving away from the scene.

"There's a couple of $5-10K online cups every so often, but that's about it," he said in a YouTube video. "Outside of that, there isn't much competitive Overwatch and that's been challenging for our players. It's been challenging for us in growing a fanbase around the game, and so it doesn't make a lot of sense to keep investing resources in the title currently."
