Tottenham Hotspur made its first splash into the transfer pool on Friday, signing Austrian international defender Kevin Wimmer from FC Koln on a five-year deal. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The 22-year-old Wimmer has spent the last three seasons with the Bundesliga side, helping them gain promotion from 2. Bundesliga at the conclusion of the 2014 season. Koln finished 12th in the table this past season.

"Tottenham is a huge chance for me," Wimmer told Koln's website. "Nonetheless, it won't be easy saying good bye to Koln."

Spurs is expected to busy in the transfer market this summer. The team has reportedly lodged a £12 million bid for Burnley striker Danny Ings. The 22-year-old is available on a free transfer at the end of June, but Spurs is hopeful that agreeing a fee with the recently relegated club prior to the end of Ings's contract could secure the player before another team can swoop in. Liverpool is reportedly also interested in Ings.
