Erik Lamela's season is officially over.

Tottenham Hotspur announced on Wednesday that the Argentine international winger will undergo season-ending hip surgery this weekend.

The injury has kept the 25-year-old Lamela out of action since October. Spurs said Lamela "achieved a good level of function," but couldn't return to training, so the decision to go under the knife was made.

In the 14 appearances over all competitions Lamela made prior to his injury, he scored twice.

Spurs returns to Premier League action on Saturday with a visit to Turf Moor and a match with Burnley. The team currently sits second in the table, 10 points adrift of leaders Chelsea with 10 matches remaining.
