The Calgary Stampeders received some good news on the knee injury to running back Jon Cornish on Monday.

According to the Stampeders' official Twitter account, head coach John Hufnagel said that Cornish's injury is not serious and he expects the reigning Most Outstanding Player to be ready to play after the upcoming bye week.

Cornish then provided details of his diagnosis on his own Twitter account, @jonnycornish.

"Okay, Spoke with my team trainer. No ACL strain. I thought that was wrong, it is what we thought, a minor MCL strain," read the tweet.

Cornish sat out most of the second half of the Stampeders' 31-24 win over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday for precautionary reasons. Before leaving the game, Cornish passed Willard Reaves to take 25th place on the league's all-time rushing yards list with a career total of 5,957. Cornish also took over the CFL rushing lead with 817 yards so far in 2014.

The Stampeders return to action on Oct. 18 when they battle the Blue Bombers in Winnipeg.
