The team announced on Friday that the 28-year-old defenceman inked a three-year deal with the club. TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun of ESPN reports the deal has an average annual value of $1.1 million.

Benn was set to become an unrestricted free agent.

A native of Victoria, BC, Benn appeared in 64 games this season for the Stars, tallying three goals and nine assists. He also blocked 94 shots, good for third on the team. He made one appearance in the postseason.

"Jordie has earned the trust of his teammates and the coaching staff, and he's taken advantage of every opportunity put in front of him during his career," said Stars general manager Jim Nill in a release. "His ability to play in a variety of roles make him valuable to our defensive depth and flexibility, and we're happy to have him locked up for the next three seasons."

In 244 career NHL games over four seasons, Benn has nine goals and 47 assists.

Benn originally signed with the club in 2011 as an undrafted free agent out of the British Columbia Hockey League's Victoria Grizzlies. Benn is the older brother of Stars captain Jamie Benn.
