Switzerland has claimed fifth place in the women's hockey tournament with a 2-1 shootout victory over Russia on Monday.
Stefanie Marty had a goal and the shootout winner while Florence Shelling made 32 saves and three more in the shootout for the victory.
Russia struck first on the power play. With Sandra Thalmann in the box for hooking, Tatiana Burina beat Shelling to give Russia an early 1-0 advantage.
Switzerland replied in the second with a man-advantage of their own as Swiss super sniper Marty scored her eighth of the tournament to even things at one.
The two sides remained even through regulation, sending this one to OT where nothing was solved.
In the shootout it was Marty once again displaying her immense talents by wiring a shot past Irina Gashennikova in the Russian net. When Shelling denied Yulia Dulina seconds later the celebrations were on as the Swiss bench erupted in joy.
The fifth place finish by Switzerland is the highest that they have ever achieved in the Olympics.
