Viviane Forest earned Canada's second medal of the day in the women's slalom, skiing in the visually impaired class with a combined time of two minutes, 1.45 seconds, following guide Lindsay Debou.
The pair were second after the first run, with a time of 56.76 seconds. Forest had the second fastest second run, just 0.02 seconds behind gold medal winner, Austrian Sabine Gasteiger, who won the gold medal in a combined time of 2:00.56. Jessica Gallagher of Australia took the bronze medal in 2:04.35.
Forest won a silver medal in the slalom at the 2009 World IPC Championships, as well as earning silver medals in the giant slalom, super-G and downhill. The pair also took the gold medal in the super combined.
Forest used to compete in the summer Paralympic sport goalball, earning two gold medals in the sport. Forest took up para-alpine skiing in 2008, taking the overall crystal globe in her first year on the World Cup.
A total of 13 women advanced to the second run in the women's slalom, visually impaired class. Two skiers did not finish the second run.
Canadian Josh Dueck also scored a silver medal in the men's sitting category in the slalom, behind Martin Braxenthaler of Germany, who won gold with more than four second margin. The bronze medal went to Austrian Philipp Bonadimann.
Women's sit ski gold was won by Claudia Loesch of Austria, who had the fastest second run to finish with a combined time of 2:12.05. American Stephani Victor, who held a commanding lead after the first run struggled in the second run, finishing 0.58 back from the lead, and taking the silver medal. The bronze medal went to Japan's Kuniko Obinata, who finished well back at 2:18.60.
Three women failed to finish the second run, and no Canadians were entered.
In the men's visually impaired category, Slovakian Jakub Krako won the gold medal with a combined time of 1:45.82. Spaniard Jon Santacana Maiztegui won silver, 1.09 seconds back, while Italian skier Gianmaria Dal Maistro won the bronze medal.
Canadian Chris Williamson finished a disappointing eighth in the first run, and managed a fifth on the second run to finish sixth overall.
Heavy snow fell throughout the second run, making conditions difficult for all the skiers.
