Sidney Crosby is ready to take another step toward making his second return to the ice this season.

Pittsburgh Penguins head coach Dan Bylsma used the team's twitter account to announce that Crosby will be travelling with the team for their current road trip.

"Sidney Crosby will join team tonight in Wash and will skate on his own during trip. No timetable for return," said Bylsma on @pghpenguins Wednesday.

Crosby attended Wednesday's game at the Verizon Center to watch his teammates take on the Washington Capitals.

Crosby missed nearly 11 months of action because of a concussion before returning in November.

In his season debut, Crosby the Penguins captain recorded a four-point night in a win over the New York Islanders. But his return only lasted eight games before he was sidelined again after a game against the Boston Bruins.

"Sidney took a hard hit during our game against Boston Monday night and wasn't feeling 100 per cent," said Penguins general manager Ray Shero after it was announced Crosby would be held out of the lineup in early December.
