The Montreal Canadiens and restricted free agent defenceman P.K. Subban are still in negotiations over a new contract, as RDS in Quebec reports that the team has offered him a two-year deal worth about $5.5 million.

RDS adds that both sides are still far apart as Subban's camp is looking for a longer term.

Subban's representatives denied the report to Quebec sports network TVA Sports and maintained that nothing was imminent. "I don't see anything being done in the short term," Subban's Newport agent Mark Guy told TVA Sports on Wednesday afternoon. "These deals are difficult and take time."

Subban made $875,000 last season, his third in the pros as part of his entry-level deal. He had seven goals and 29 assists in 81 games.

Subban, 23, was Montreal's second-round draft pick in 2007.
