Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Morgan Rielly scored late in the third period to give the Moose Jaw Warriors a hard-fought 2-1 win on Wednesday over the Vancouver Giants in Western Hockey League action.

The Moose Jaw defenceman, from nearby West Vancouver, scored off his own rebound from a tight angle at 15:09 of the third period to give the Warriors (10-11-7) their second win in a row.

Fellow defenceman Kendall McFaull scored his first goal of the season for Moose Jaw on the power play at 18:30 of the opening period to tie the game 1-1.

Tristan Sieben opened the scoring for Vancouver (7-18-0) with a wrap-around goal at the 3:20 mark.

It was one of only two shots on goal by the Giants in the first period, even though they had two power-play opportunities.

The Warriors had 14 shots in the period, and lived up to their billing as the seventh-best power-play team in the WHL when a seemingly innocuous long-range shot from McFaull squeezed between the goalie's legs.

Vancouver lost its fifth in a row despite a fine evening from goaltender Payton Lee, who made 32 saves.

His Moose Jaw counterpart Justin Paulic only had to make 15 saves.

The Warriors went 1 for 5 with the man advantage while the Giants were 0 for 4.

Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Swift Current 5 Brandon 1; Lethbridge 6 Prince Albert 4; Kootenay 5 Edmonton 4 (SO) and Kelowna 3 Tri-City 2.

Broncos 5 Wheat Kings 1

At Brandon, Man., Chance Lund had a goal and an assist to lead Swift Current (11-12-5) past the Wheat Kings (10-15-3).

Hurricanes 6 Raiders 4

At Prince Albert, Sask., Jaimen Yakubowski scored twice and added two assists as Lethbridge (14-13-3) sank the Raiders (18-8-2).

Ice 5 Oil Kings 4 (SO)

At Cranbrook, B.C., Sam Reinhart and Luke Philp scored in the shootout as Kootenay (8-15-1) slipped past Edmonton (16-5-5). Philp also had back-to-back goals in the third period for the Ice.

Rockets 3 Americans 2

At Kelowna, B.C., Dylen McKinlay snapped a 2-2 tie in the second period, and set up a pair of first period goals by Myles Bell, to lead the Rockets (16-8-2) past Tri-City (16-9-2).
