COLUMBUS, Ohio -- The Columbus Blue Jackets say that prospect defenceman Ryan Murray has undergone successful surgery on his injured shoulder.

Murray, the club's first pick, second overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft, will be sidelined for approximately six months but is expected to make a full recovery.

Murray, who is captain of the Western Hockey League's Everett Silvertips, was injured on Nov. 16 in a game against the Victoria Royals. He was expected to represent Canada at the 2013 world junior championships before suffering the injury. He helped Canada win bronze at the 2012 tournament.

The 19-year-old native of White City, Sask., had appeared in 23 games with Everett this season, collecting two goals and 15 assists with 14 penalty minutes.

In 191 WHL games, he has registered 121 points (22 goals, 99 assists) with 121 penalty minutes and a plus-51 rating.
