Tampa, FL - Tampa Bay Lightning sniper Steven Stamkos underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair a broken right leg suffered in Monday's game against the Boston Bruins.

Though Stamkos is expected to return to Tampa to begin rehab later this week, there has been no timetable set on his return. Bolts GM Steve Yzerman said following his club's 3-0 loss that the versatile forward will be out indefinitely.

Stamkos suffered a fractured tibia while backchecking on a play in the Tampa Bay zone in the second period when he got tangled with Boston defenseman Dougie Hamilton. Stamkos fell to the ice and slid feet-first before his lower right leg slammed into the right post, forcing the net off its moorings.

The 23-year-old forward was tied for the NHL lead in goals (14) and points (23).
