Olympic gold medallist Jon Montgomery was not named to the national skeleton team for Sochi, as its roster was announced for the 2014 Olympic Winter games on Wednesday.

Sarah Reid and Mellisa Hollingsworth, along with Eric Neilson and John Fairbairn were named to the team, while a third racer for both men and ladies could be named depending on the remaining results on the intercontinental circuit.

Montgomery - from Russell, Man. - has already said that this year may be his last in skeleton, despite the fact that he would have to win his final four races next month to earn the third men's spot.

Montgomery won gold in the men's skeleton event in Vancouver in 2010 and became an instant celebrity with his colourful personality.
