Unrestricted free agent Vaclav Prospal has had second thoughts about joining the Vancouver Canucks on a professional tryout.

The Canucks were expected to sign the 38-year-old winger to an American Hockey League tryout with the Canucks' affiliate, the Utica Comets. However, Prospal informed the team on Friday he has decided to retire instead.

Last season's top point-getter on the Columbus Blue Jackets, Prospal finished with 12 goals and 18 assists through 48 games.

He's played 1,108 games between the Blue Jackets, New York Rangers, Tampa Bay, Anaheim, Florida, Ottawa and Philadelphia. Over his 16-year NHL career, he's amassed 255 goals and 510 assists for 765 career points.

Prospal was drafted by the Flyers in the third round (71st overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft.
