Ottawa Senators forward Dany Heatley suffered a separated shoulder in Saturday's 3-2 victory over Detroit and will be out of action for 4-6 weeks.
Heatley missed most of the third period when he crashed hard into the end boards with Red Wings winger Dallas Drake. Heatley was slouched over when he left the ice and was favouring his shoulder. He didn't return to the game.
"When you lose one of your better players partway through the game you're never happy about it, but you just can't think about it," Jason Spezza said following the game.
Heatley assisted on Daniel Alfredsson's first goal of the game while logging 16:04 of ice time before sustaining the injury.
Heatley joins forward Patrick Eaves (right shoulder separation) on the injury list, but Eaves is expected to return to the lineup on Tuesday in Washington.
In 43 games played, Heatley has 25 goals and 30 assists with a plus-31 rating.
Heatley was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star lineup on Friday, joining linemates Jason Spezza and captain Daniel Alfredsson but the injury will keep him away from the festivities, which kick off on January 26 in Atlanta.
