San Francisco, CA - Major League Baseball suspended San Francisco Giants catcher Eliezer Alfonzo for 50 games after he tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
The suspension begins on May 1.
Alfonzo, a member of the club's 40-man roster, is currently with Triple-A Fresno.
The Venezuela native is a .263 career hitter with 13 home runs and 45 runs batted in over parts of two major league seasons with San Francisco.
