The Florida Panthers have traded centre and team captain Olli Jokinen to the Phoenix Coyotes in a draft-day deal announced Friday at Scotiabank Place in Ottawa.

The Coyotes sent defencemen Nick Boynton and Keith Ballard along with a second-round pick (49th overall) in this year's draft.

Jokinen, 29, had 34 goals and 37 assists in 82 games for the Panthers last season. The Finnish star leaves Florida as the franchise's all-time leader in goals (188), assists (231) and points (419).

The Los Angeles Kings originally selected Jokinen with the third overall pick in the 1997 draft and he has posted 208 goals and 253 assists in 723 NHL games with the Kings, New York Islanders and Panthers.

Jokinen is signed through the 2009-2010 campaign.

The 25-year-old Ballard had six goals and 21 points in 82 games with the Coyotes last season. He had 87 points (19 goals, 68 assists) in 233 career tests with Phoenix.

Boynton, 29, recorded three goals and nine helpers in 79 games with the Coyotes in 2007-08. In 437 career NHL games with Boston and Phoenix, he has recorded 27 goals and 80 assists for 107 points.
