The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed centre Michael Peca to a one-year, $1.315 million contract.
The 5-11, 190-pound Toronto native appeared in 65 games last season for the Blue Jackets and was the club's third leading scorer with nine goals and 25 assists.
The 34-year-old centre was originally seeking a two-year deal, but accepted a one-year after he saw the club's committment to building a winner.
Blue Jackets general manager Scott Howson has been busy since the NHL Entry Draft, picking up forwards Kristian Huselius, R.J. Umberger, Raffi Torres and defencemen Fedor Tyutin and Christian Backman.
In 13 NHL seasons, Peca has played in 793 career games, recording 172 goals and 271 assists for 6 different teams (Vancouver, Buffalo, New York Islanders, Edmonton, Toronto and Columbus).
