When the Canadian World Juniors take to the ice in Ottawa this December for their attempt to win a fifth straight tournament, they will do so without head coach Benoit Groulx.

Groulx has signed on to be head coach of the Rochester Americans of the American Hockey League and will not be able to coach Team Canada.

The 40-year old had coached the Gatineau Olympiques to three Quebec Major Junior Hockey League titles in the last six years.

He was an assistant to Brent Sutter during last summer's Super Series against Russia, in which Canada posted a 7-0-1 record.

Canada opens defence of its title December 26 against the Czech Republic at Scotiabank Place in a game that can be seen on TSN and TSNHD.
