The Toronto Argonauts lost a major weapon in their arsenal as kick return specialist Dominique Dorsey has signed on with the Washington Redskins of the NFL.
"Congratulations to Dominique on this well-deserved opportunity," said general manager Adam Rita in a release. "He is an amazing person and player who will truly be missed. We wish him the best of luck in chasing his dream."
Dorsey has a strong season in 2008 and earned several CFL honours. He was named the CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player, East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player, was a CFL All-Star at kick returner, East Division All-Star at kick returner and also earned the nod as 2008 CFLPA All-Star kick returner.
Dorsey was also the unanimous choice for Argonauts' team Most Outstanding Player and Outstanding Special Teams Player. He set Argonauts single-season records in kickoff yards (1,257) and a single-game kickoff yards (225) in 2008.
"It was a tough decision to leave - I felt like I made a home for myself in Toronto and wanted to win a Grey Cup there badly. I showcased my best abilities in Toronto but needed to pursue this opportunity in Washington at this point in my career," explained Dorsey in a release.
Rita admitted that it will be difficult to replace what Dorsey brought to the team.
"He is a hard player to replace but we always strive to find tomorrow's heroes for our fans and are confident we will bring new and exciting personnel to Toronto," said the Argos' GM on Wednesday.
