The Montreal Canadiens have re-signed restricted free agent forward Tomas Plekanec to a one-year contract worth $2.75 million. By agreeing to a deal, the team and player avoided a salary arbitration hearing that had been scheduled for July 30.
Plekanec, 26, played in 80 games for Montreal last season, and scored 20 goals and 19 assists. The native of Kladno, Czech Republic had his best season for the team in 2007-08, when he counted 29 goals and 69 points.
The Canadiens originally tendered a qualifying offer to Plekanec on June 29. He was drafted by Montreal in the third round of the 2001 draft, and has played his entire five-year career with the Canadiens.
