The St. Louis Blues have invited veteran defenceman Darryl Sydor to training camp on tryout basis.

The two-time Stanley Cup winner believes that he would be a good fit on a young team.

"I'm cap friendly," Sydor told The Daily News. "I'll go in there and be a leader. It's a good young team. I'll go in there and do anything they want."

Sydor has 98 goals, 499 points and 740 penalty minutes In 1,244 career games.  He was originally drafted seventh overall by the Los Angeles Kings in the 1990 NHL Entry draft.

The Edmonton native will likely be competing for a roster spot with Alex Pietrangelo, Brendal Bell and Steve Wagner.

"There's s no guarantees on either side. He wants to come and give it a shot and we're happy to take a look at him," Blues' President John Davidson told the Belleville News-Democrat.

The Blues also offered former Carolina Hurricanes' winger Ryan Bayda a tryout invitation to training camp.
