The Toronto Maple Leafs have decided to delay a final decision on a captain and will go with three alternate captains.
"We are going to start with three alternate captains - Komisarek, Beauchemin and Kaberle," said head coach Ron Wilson on Wednesday.
"Hopefully by the first of November or so, after I get to know Mike a little better and Beauch, obviously I know Kaberle pretty well, then we'll make a decision on who the captain is. Or, if we don't feel, I don't think this is going to happen, but if we didn't feel that any one of those guys would be the type of captain we need, the type of captain the organization needs, then we wouldn't have one."
"They are all worthy, they all have different personalities and we will chose from one of those three, more than likely," said Wilson.
The team did not have a player wear the "C" for the 2008-09 season following the departure of former captain Mats Sundin.
Sundin served as captain from the 1997-98 season until 2007-08.
The Maple Leafs play their first game of the 2009-10 season on Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens at ACC.
